Join us at Oxheys Mill Studios for an Open Day this Saturday 14th June, for an opportunity to see a fabulous new installation by international artist Lubaina Himid MBE. Professor of Contemporary Art at UCLAN in Preston. This will be the only opportunity to see this installation before it gets shipped off to Guanjiu in South Korea for the Art Biennale so don’t miss this opportunity to see and explore the installation. Lubaina will be around all day to answer questions and talk about the work.
If you haven’t been to Oxheys before, the Open Day is also a chance to have a look around, talk with some resident artists and see the Project Space.
The Open Day is on from 11am to 4pm. All welcome.
Please note, if the loading bay is not open please ring the doorbell for disabled access.
Celebrating 3 years since moving in to the former ARM factory on Stanhope Street, artist-run Oxheys Mill Studios was started by three local artists as a collective, with the belief that empty industrial spaces could be made accessible for art and the aim of providing a space in Preston where local artists could experiment and exhibit work alongside the studios. To date 25 very different exhibitions have been organised and hosted along with other events and activities including music, live theatre, performance and poetry readings, creative writing, life drawing and photography workshops.

We have had a fantastic response for this year’s exhibition, with over a hundred entries! The responses to the Protest theme have been intriguing, ensuring we’ll have a thought-provoking exhibition. The standard of work has been very high, making the selection process more difficult but we have now made the final selection and are really excited with the results. We start the install tomorrow – don’t miss the private view this Thursday 6-8pm and then the performance art event at Korova Arts Cafe in Preston on Saturday from 3pm.
After two successful days of submissions for this years’ LAN Open exhibition, we are already set to have a great show and there is still one more day to go. After the success of last years’ Open exhibition, we were keen to hold another. Oxheys Mill Studios have kindly agreed to host in their fabulous Project Space again but we have also arranged with the new Korova Arts Cafe in Preston for some additional exhibition space. This will increase exposure and provide more opportunities for sales. The Private View event will be held at Oxheys on 22nd August, with another event held at Korova on Saturday 24th August.LAN Flyer
Last year saw Artlab contemporary print studios join the 20:20 project for the first time. 20:20 Print Exchange started in 2009 as a project between Hot Bed Press in Salford and Red Hot Press in Southampton. The format was so successful that it was decided to roll this out to more print workshops. In 2010 there were 120 artists from 10 print workshops involved, in 2011 there were 257 artists from 19 print studios and in 2012 there were 392 artists from 31 workshops producing 9,800 prints!
