Brief for Portas Pilot Artist Commission

We are seeking an artist to brand the Portas Pilot for Nelson and to create excitement and activity around some of the projects that will be happening during the first few months of this project.

We want the brand to have longevity so we would like something that can be used after the lifetime of the Portas Pilot if needed.

We are looking for something creative, effective and unusual to get people talking and gain media attention. Ideally the brand and activity will be suitable for all of the following:
• Pop Up Shops
• Fresher’s Week Activities
• Boot Camps in town
• Art and Vintage Market

This is quite an open brief but artists must remember we are seeking value for money.

The successful artist would be expected to produce:
• A Brand as an image or logo or both (of which the intellectual property rights would belong to Pendle Borough Council)
• A series of exciting and unusual happenings to gain local, regional and ideally national attention of the Nelson Portas Pilot project

The successful artist would be expected to work with two young people during the life of the project as a mentor. We are expecting to recruit two young people, likely to be students of Nelson and Colne College, who will be a general assistant and a social media assistant. The general assistant will work closely with the artist commissioned and officers from Pendle Borough Council and Pendle Leisure Trust to ensure the happenings are planned and delivered effectively. The social media assistant will be expected to create and maintain communications with the public via twitter, facebook, blogs etc and may even create an app.

Please submit up to 500 words detailing what you would do and why you would be the ideal artist for this commission and you can include up to 5 images. Make sure your contact details are included and please don’t submit docx; PDF or older word documents.

Artist Fee: £3200 inclusive of all time, materials etc
Timescale: August to end Oct

Please Submit to Hanna Latty before Midday on July 31st 2012.
