Merz DIY 13 Summer School
at Cylinders Estate, Elterwater, Cumbria
21st July – 4th August 2013
Merz DIY is a residential summer school for artists and an experimental space for interdisciplinary practices as part of a temporary creative community.
Based at Cylinders Estate in Cumbria, home of artist Kurt Schwitters’ Merzbarn, DIY 13 is led by Merz Working Group: artists, architects, growers, makers and writers from all over the UK.
We are calling for expressions of interest from other cultural workers who would like to collaborative to develop and participate in a programme of workshops, events and discussions across two weeks in July-August.
This year our working title is Thinkers Builders Dwellers. Inspired by a presentation from DIY 12 guest speaker Tordis Berstrand, Merz Working Group have been discussing ideas and problems of dwelling. This has led on to considering the connections between thinking (and drawing), building (and making) and dwelling (being or staying) within art practice, land use and communal living. We invite proposals for critical workshops, events and presentations that both engage with and challenge this working title.
The cost of the two-week residency is £210 (or £105 for one week). This equates to £15 per day per person and includes three meals a day, shared accommodation or camping, transfers from Windermere Station plus limited tools and materials. There are no tuition fees, hidden costs or profits.
Residency places will be allocated on a rolling basis until all 25 are filled. Apply now.
Further information about the summer school and details of how to apply is available on our website.
