Local communities are being invited to take part in Our Big Gig, a community music celebration that takes place across the UK from 11 to 14 July 2013, funded by the Department of Communities and Local Government and through Grants for the Arts funding from the Arts Council.Our Big Gig is a series of community events that aims to bring communities together to celebrate local musical talent and get more people involved in making music. The events will be at least four hours long, free to attend and will provide opportunities for people to participate in a range of musical activities.
How to get involved
Our Big Gig is run by Superact, a not-for-profit arts organisation that uses creativity to improve the health and wellbeing of people from a wide variety of backgrounds and abilities. They are looking for over 275 local Community Event Organisers across the UK to take part. All Our Big Gig events are organised by local volunteers in their communities, with support from Superact’s Regional Managers.
Organisations applying to host an Our Big Gig event can be:
- a friends of the park group
- voluntary group
- youth organisation
- faith group
- local authority
- Parish Council
Community Event Organisers will receive:
- a grant of up to £400 towards their event
- marketing materials (posters, banner and a t-shirt)
- PR support
- training opportunities
- a listing and promotion for their event on the Our Big Gig website
