The Manchester Craft and Design Centre reaches its 30th anniversary this year and is marking this milestone by holding a charity auction on Thursday 8 November. The proceeds will support the development of a new Welcome area at the centre and also help fund local charity Forever Manchester.
You are invited to the launch on Saturday July 7th 2012, from 2.30 – 4.30 pm, at the war memorial. A small exhibition of ideas, maquettes, drawings, sketchbooks and background stories will be held in the entrance hall of Darwen Library untill August 3rd. (Library opens on Saturday from 10.00 – 4.00)
Just two weeks left to discover and take part in the Coppice Association’s Working Woodlands: the story of coppice – a celebration of coppicing at Farfield Mill Arts and Heritage Centre, near Sedbergh, Cumbria (5 miles from M6, J37).
Read all about how coppicing benefits woodland and wildlife, then discover some amazing things made from coppiced wood – a double bed, a replica Irish currach, even a fitted kitchen! – alongside many smaller items, all for sale. You can also have a go yourself, during daily demonstrations of coppice crafts such as wood turning, basket-weaving and hurdle-making.
