Events for June Lancashire Witches 400 / Bowland Arts festival
Green Close Studios is currently delivering an exciting new project, which explores the heritage of the Lancashire Witch trials and the 400th anniversary in 2012, of their trial and subsequent death. The Lancashire Witches 400 project will consider the heritage of Lancashire, the historical context of religious and social persecution and its relevance to intolerance and injustice today. We will be working with Professional Historians – Robert Poole and other heritage professionals, to consider the role of the ‘witches’ in 1612 and also the Lancaster based charity Stepping Stones Nigeria in order to develop an understanding of current human rights abuses towards children today accused as ‘witches’ in the Niger delta.
