Manchester Jazz Festival 2012 launches

Celebrating its 17th year, it is unlike any other event on the jazz festival circuit. Seventy events, more than half of them free, will take place across six central Manchester music venues, offering a fascinating journey of discovery through the world of jazz today. This year’s event features nine days of contemporary jazz from the North West, the UK and abroad with national premieres of original work and international debuts.

This year will see AND delivering its most ambitious festival yet, a range of public realm, performance, film, visual art and music events exploring the notion of ‘Success’. The festival previews on 22 – 23 June at Cornerhouse, Manchester, followed by events throughout the summer that will culminate in five days of exciting and intense activity in Manchester between 29 August and 2 September. North West Visual Arts Open – Preston, Thursday 26 to Sunday 29 April

An exciting weekend of art, poetry, music and real ale takes place in Preston from Thursday 26 to Sunday 29 April 2012 as part of the North West Visual Arts Open weekends.  A wide range of cultural events and activities, many of them free, are taking place in venues across the city to showcase and promote access to local and international artists and their work.

The main events take place on Saturday 28 April and include an Art Picnic at Avenham Pavilion from 2pm to 5pm where you can chat, draw and make music with artists and studio groups from across the North West. From 12pm The Harris Museum & Art Gallery is running a special series of tours, events and activities including a family-friendly pottery workshop.
